If you want to carry a torque wrench – this is it!
By: Jan Aalders on 21 June 2022The Lezyne Pocket Torque Drive is a torque wrench that comes in a zippered case small enough to drop into a jersey pocket. It has loads of functionality and is just the job for making mid-ride adjustments to your bike without being concerned about over tightening bolts, damaging carbon fibre components or stripping threads. The lightweight [75gm] wrench, the Custom Key for adjusting torque settings and the accompanying bits sit in moulded EVA foam inside the case. With a torque range of 2-6Nm, adjustable in 0.5Nm increments, it’s not the torque wrench you would rely on for tightening everything on your bike, but it will be perfect for setting up your cockpit, tightening stem faceplate bolts, bidon bolts, brake and shifter cable clamps and anything attached to your handlebars. It comes with 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm and 5mm hex bits, and T20 and T25 Torx bits, pretty much covering anything you’re likely to need when out and about. Unlike most of its similarly sized competitors, it has an easily readable torque scale. Furthermore, you can’t over torque a bolt. Set the torque to your requirements and the wrench will only tighten to that setting and give way with a pronounced click. Quite different from trying to line up a marker with a setting on a dial. Pros – Lightweight, pocketable, quality finish, well made, good range of bits, small case, cannot exceed the torque you set, strong magnet in the chuck, good to tour with if space is limited. Cons – Limited torque range, [2-12Nm may be better], handle needs to be assembled each time you take the tool out of the case, would be more useful with more bits - 6 and 8mm hex, T30 Torx and Philips and flat head screwdriver bits.
